Short answer
Grok is xAI’s chat assistant: you ask, and it answers in the chat. Grok Bot is a separate desktop and mobile app where Bots, each with its own cloud computer, connected apps, routines and memory, do real work for you and keep going when you close your laptop. Cursor’s help page says it plainly: Grok and Grok Bot “are two different apps”.

When to use which
Use Grok when you want an answer or a draft now: a question, an explanation, a first draft, an image or a quick research summary. You read the result and do the next step yourself.
Use Grok Bot when you want the work done: a job that spans several apps or websites, runs again every week, or should carry on overnight. Examples are a Monday competitor check, inbox triage with drafts to approve, or a spreadsheet built from ten websites. New to it? Start with how to use Grok Bot.
Many people use both. On The X Subscription, Premium and up include Grok and Grok Bot, and both draw from one shared weekly usage pool. See usage and tokens explained.
Why people mix them up
- The names. They sound like one product, but Grok Bot is its own app with its own sign-in.
- Both say “multi-agent”. The Grok app has a multi-agent mode for deeper answers. Grok Bot’s “agents” are lasting Bots that do tasks. Grok agents explained untangles all three meanings.
- Limits look alike. Cursor’s help notes that a paywall or a “Weekly SuperGrok Limit” in the Grok app isn’t about Grok Bot.
A word on responsibility
Grok Bot acts for you on real accounts. You’re responsible for what your Bots do, so keep approvals on for anything that sends, buys, posts or deletes. See keeping Grok Bot safe.
FAQ
Is Grok Bot the same as Grok?
No. They’re two different apps from xAI. Grok is the chat assistant at grok.com and in the Grok apps. Grok Bot is the agent app where Bots work on their own cloud computer.
Do I need Grok to use Grok Bot?
No. You sign in to Grok Bot with your Cursor account. It’s included on X Subscription Premium and up and on paid Cursor plans. See pricing.
Is Grok free?
Grok is free to start, with limited chat. Grok Bot isn’t on the Free plan, but Cursor offers a Grok Bot free trial as a usage credit.
Can Grok do tasks for me like Grok Bot?
Grok can use connectors inside a chat to reach your email, files and calendar. It doesn’t have its own computer, scheduled routines or Bots that keep working while you’re away. Those are Grok Bot features.
Does my Grok subscription cover Grok Bot?
On The X Subscription, Premium, Super and Ultra do and Plus doesn’t. Older SuperGrok plans can be linked to Grok Bot. See pricing.
