Is Grok Bot down? How to check and what to do

Last checked

Check status.cursor.com first. Grok Bot has its own line there, because Bots run on computers in Cursor’s cloud. If that line says operational, the problem is most likely on your side (usage, sign-in, a connector or one stuck Bot), and the steps below will usually sort it out.

The 10-second check

  1. Open status.cursor.com and find the Grok Bot row. When we checked on October 25, 2026, it was listed next to Cursor’s other services (Cloud Agents, Automations, CLI and more).
  2. If Grok itself feels broken, for example replies failing in grok.com or the Grok apps, also check status.x.ai. That page covers grok.com, the Grok apps, Grok in X and the API. It does not have a separate Grok Bot row.
  3. Both green? Then it’s probably not an outage. Keep reading.

Why two pages? xAI’s docs say “the computers Bots work on run in Cursor’s cloud,” and Grok Bot signs in with your Cursor account. So Cursor’s status page is the closest thing to an official Grok Bot status light.

Is it just you? The usual causes

Most “Grok Bot is down” moments aren’t outages. These are the ones xAI’s own troubleshooting guide covers:

  • You ran out of weekly usage. Grok Bot usage resets weekly. When it runs out and on-demand or top-ups are off, Bots stop until the reset. The app shows a usage limit notice. Check Settings → Usage & Billing.
  • Your plan doesn’t include Grok Bot. On The X Subscription, Plus and Free don’t include it. SuperGrok Lite doesn’t either. (See our pricing guide.)
  • The computer is still setting up or can’t be reached. First setup and image updates can take several minutes.
  • A Bot looks stuck but is really waiting on you. It might need a login, a CAPTCHA, an approval or a secret.
  • A connector got signed out. Routines fail quietly when a plugin loses its sign-in.
  • @bot didn’t answer on X. That’s often a region or post-type rule, not an outage (more below).

Fixes, least risky first

This is the order xAI’s troubleshooting guide recommends. Don’t skip ahead to Reset.

  1. Choose Retry, or reopen the conversation.
  2. Restart the Grok Bot app. xAI notes that most setup problems clear after you fully quit and reopen it.
  3. Check for an app update: Settings → Updates → Check for Updates.
  4. Choose Recover computer if the app offers it on the “can’t reach computer” screen. This keeps your files and logins.
  5. Settings → Computer → Update Bot’s Computer. This also keeps files and logins, but removes apps and packages you installed.
  6. Reset only as a last resort. Reset restores the last saved snapshot and can lose recent work. Your conversations are stored separately, so they survive.

Closing the app or your laptop doesn’t stop cloud work. Your Bots may still be working even when your app looks disconnected.

When a single Bot seems frozen

  • Look at its status in the sidebar and the conversation.
  • Open the computer view to see if it’s sitting on a page.
  • Look for a question, approval, login, CAPTCHA or secret request.
  • Send a short redirect, or “Stop now” if the work should end.

When a routine didn’t run

Open the routine and check that it’s enabled, the schedule and time zone are right, the Bot that owns it still exists, its plugins are still signed in, and your usage hasn’t run out. Run history shows recent failures. Be careful with Test run, because it does real work.

When @bot doesn’t reply on X

Per xAI, @bot stays quiet when:

  • your X account is based in Australia, the UK, the EU, Iceland, Liechtenstein or Norway (not available there yet),
  • the post also tags @grok,
  • the post, its parent or a quoted post has a video or GIF,
  • the post doesn’t pass moderation, or
  • Grok Bot isn’t linked to your Grok account, or your weekly usage is used up.

Make your Bots outage-proof

An outage you planned for barely hurts. A few habits that help:

  • Keep important files somewhere besides the Bot’s computer, so a Reset never costs you real work.
  • Write a no-data rule into every routine: “If the source is unavailable, report the failure instead of using old data.” xAI’s docs recommend the same thing.
  • Keep sends, purchases and deletes behind approval, so a half-finished run can’t do something you didn’t sign off on.
  • Bot Doctor: a monthly check-up for bloated memory, stale routines and risky permissions.
  • Backup & Handoff: backs up work outside the Bot’s computer after every big step.
  • Usage Limit Maximizer: rates how much weekly usage a plan will burn and suggests a leaner version.
  • GrokBot Optimizer: watches a multi-bot setup for drift and waste.

FAQ

Where is the official Grok Bot status page?

Grok Bot has a row on status.cursor.com. The status.x.ai page covers Grok, grok.com, the Grok apps and the API, but it has no separate Grok Bot row.

Grok Bot says I hit a limit. Is it down?

No. That’s your weekly usage running out. It resets weekly, or you can keep going with top-ups or on-demand usage if your plan allows. See Grok Bot pricing.

Will my Bots lose work during an outage?

Conversations are stored outside the Bot’s computer. Files are designed to survive normal updates and recovery, but a Reset can lose very recent unsynced work. Keep copies of important results.

Do routines keep running when my laptop is closed?

Yes. Work runs on the cloud computer, so closing the app or your laptop doesn’t stop a routine.

What should I send support?

xAI asks for your app version, operating system, the exact error, the Bot or routine name, the time and time zone, any request or conversation ID, and what you already tried. Never include passwords or codes.
